Ding Zhen is a Tibetan yak herder. Thanks to a video of just 7 seconds on Tik Tok, he becomes a web idol. His fame influences and transforms uses and habits of his entire village, giving strong inputs especially to younger people who begin to use social media to become influencers. It is precisely social media that makes this village known to the outside world, but at the same time brings about a change in the villagers’ concept of life.

Xiangyu Long, born and raised in the Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Aba, China, is a documentary photographer based in Chengdu and Shanghai. His work focuses on the overlap and metamorphosis of group identities in the context of globalization and homogenization.
